In centuries past, Bibles and other important books were shared and preserved through the tedious work of hand-copying. Such manuscripts sometimes contained elaborate illustrations (called illuminations) and text embellishment. None surpass the exquisite craftsmanship of the medieval Celts. Their handiwork, such as that in the Book of Kells and the Lindisfarne Gospels, is the inspiration behind these designs. I've done as Celtic illuminators one did, using a series of red dots around letters and text as a way to enliven the "living WORD."
